Educational Qualification

  • A Ph.D. in the relevant discipline is required.
  • Candidates need first class in all preceding degrees (Bachelor’s onwards).
  • All degrees must be from an institute or university recognised by UGC, AICTE, AIU or the Government of India.
  • Foreign degrees are considered if offered by a national university or institution of that country, or by an institution in the QS/THE World Ranking up to 500.
  • If “first class” is not mentioned on the certificate, the candidate must have at least 6.5 CGPA (10-point scale) or 60% aggregate marks.
  • No conversion between CGPA and percentage is allowed for eligibility. Results are considered as printed on the marksheet.
  • For a CGPA on any scale other than 10-point, a certificate from an authorised signatory of the institute or university (not the supervisor or HoD) confirming first class must be attached. Alternatively, the CGPA may be converted to a 10-point scale.
  • Candidates who did a Ph.D. directly after a 4-year engineering UG degree must submit an undertaking in the format given in Annexure-III.

Essential qualifications, experience, credit points and other conditions follow Schedule ‘E’ of the NIT Statute (Gazette of India, 24 July 2017). Candidates should read it before filling in the form.

Experience

  • Part-time, teaching assistant and visiting or guest faculty experience is not counted.
  • Only experience in a regular position of more than six months is considered.
  • Teaching and research experience is counted from CFTIs, Institutes of National Importance, state-funded institutes and universities, centrally funded labs and organisations (CSIR, DRDO, DAE, DBT, DST, DSIR, ISRO and similar), NIRF top-100 institutions, and foreign institutions in the QS/THE top 500.
  • Industrial experience counts if it is in a PSU, an autonomous organisation or a private company with turnover above ₹500 crore.

  • Experience certificates must state the exact duration, designation and pay scale for each position.

Inbreeding Condition

Candidates who obtained a Ph.D. from SVNIT Surat need a three-year gap between the Ph.D. notification date and the last date of the online application. This does not apply to existing SVNIT faculty.

Age Limit

Fresh appointment beyond 60 years is discouraged, except for candidates with exceptional research and ongoing or approved externally funded projects.

Application Fee

  • General/OBC/EWS (male candidates): ₹1,000, non-refundable
  • Exempted from fee: SC, ST, PwD, female candidates and existing SVNIT faculty

The fee must be paid online through the portal. An application without the fee is treated as incomplete and rejected. Candidates applying to more than one department must apply separately, with all enclosures and the fee for each.
