RRB JE Recruitment 2026

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 04/2026 for recruitment to various posts of Junior Engineer (JE) and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS). A total of 3993 vacancies are available across different RRBs, Railway Zones and Production Units. The online application process starts on 14 August 2026 and eligible candidates can submit their applications up to 13 September 2026, 11:59 PM.

The recruitment notice provides vacancies for different engineering disciplines including Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Electronics/S&T and related categories, along with Depot Material Superintendent posts. All notified posts carry Level 6 under the 7th CPC with an initial pay of ₹35,400.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Educational qualification varies according to the post and examination group.

For different JE categories, the notification prescribes three-year Diplomas or equivalent eligible qualifications in the relevant engineering discipline. The notified disciplines include Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology, Instrumentation and Control and related engineering streams, depending on the post.

For Depot Material Superintendent, candidates must have a Three Years Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized University/Institution. Higher qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech are also acceptable in lieu of the three-year Diploma in Engineering in the same discipline.

Candidates must possess the prescribed qualification by the closing date of the application, i.e. 13 September 2026. Candidates awaiting final examination results of the prescribed qualification are not eligible.

Experience

The notification does not prescribe a separate work-experience requirement for these posts. Eligibility is primarily based on the prescribed educational/technical qualification, age and other conditions mentioned in the CEN.

Salary

Selected candidates will be appointed at Pay Level 6 of the 7th CPC with an initial pay of ₹35,400 per month, apart from admissible allowances and benefits as per Railway rules.

Selection Process

The RRB JE Recruitment 2026 selection process consists primarily of:

  1. 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
  2. 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
  3. Document Verification (DV)
  4. Medical Examination
  5. Empanelment / Final Appointment

Candidates shortlisted for the 2nd Stage CBT are selected based on normalized CBT-I marks. The notification provides for shortlisting up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies for the concerned RRB, subject to the provisions mentioned in the CEN.

Candidates for Document Verification are shortlisted based on their CBT-II performance, merit and options, with the number of candidates generally corresponding to the number of vacancies. Final empanelment is subject to successful Document Verification and prescribed medical fitness.

RRB JE Syllabus

The CBT-II syllabus consists of General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry, Computer Basics, Environment and Pollution Control, along with Technical Abilities related to the candidate’s examination group.

The technical examination groups include:

  • Electrical & Allied Engineering
  • Electronics & Allied Engineering
  • Mechanical & Allied Engineering

The notification provides separate detailed syllabi for these four groups in Annexure VIII.

For example, the Electronics & Allied Engineering syllabus covers electronic components, electronic devices and circuits, digital electronics, linear integrated circuits, microprocessors, measurements, communication engineering, data communication/networking, computer programming and basic electrical engineering.

The RRB specifically advises candidates to enter the details in the Create an Account form carefully because those details, including mobile number and email ID, cannot subsequently be modified.

Candidates must apply only through the official RRB application link. Multiple applications to different RRBs or multiple applications against the same RRB can result in rejection and debarment.
